【USR Hub】The “Tianmu Studies” Based on Culture, Life, and Environment: Imagining Low-Carbon Resilient Communities and Local Livable Systems - Final Report and Feedback

Today, we are honored to invite experts from various fields, including Wen Haizhen, President of the Caoshan Cultural and Historical Alliance, Chen Xinrong, Founder of Provence, Lin Zichao, Assistant Professor at Chinese Culture University, and Zeng Yuren, Founder of the Huangxi Ecological Basin, to provide feedback on the students' final results. Their fields of expertise cover Beitou agriculture, the history and development of the Tienmu area, and future sustainable development plans. First, the students introduced the Caoshan citrus restoration project. Caoshan citrus is a unique agricultural product in the Beitou area. Through this restoration plan, local farmers strive to raise awareness of and appreciation for local agriculture. Next, the focus shifted to the history and significance of the Tienmu ancient waterway. This ancient waterway witnessed the development changes of the Tienmu area. Once an important irrigation system, it has now become an important cultural symbol. The waterway not only represents past technology and wisdom but also provides valuable cultural resources for modern cities, fostering community awareness and protection of history. Following this, the students explained the concept of "Net Zero Tienmu," aiming to achieve carbon neutrality in the Tienmu area by reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency. This involves promoting renewable energy, retrofitting existing buildings to improve energy efficiency, and encouraging community participation in environmental protection activities. Another highlight of the report was the development strategy of "Resilient Tienmu." By enhancing the disaster resilience of infrastructure, establishing comprehensive emergency plans, and promoting community cooperation, the goal is to build a more resilient community, ensuring residents can quickly recover when faced with challenges. Additionally, the students mentioned the "Walking Tienmu" activity, with a focus on "Tienmu People." They emphasized the core role of community residents in the development of Tienmu. The area's diverse culture and inclusiveness have made it a vibrant and dynamic community.
