【USR】The Good Cycle of "You and I, Together"—Advocacy, Care, and Field Management for Community Sustainability - Community Golden Award

On December 3, 2024, the project team participated in the 10th National Community Gold Award event. The team deeply appreciated the importance of community care in promoting independent living for seniors and intergenerational integration. During the event, the team witnessed community partners from across the country share their efforts and achievements in caregiving services. These stories were not only moving but also provided much inspiration for the team. Community care and support centers serve as the best places for seniors to age in place, encouraging their autonomy and independence. Through mutual cooperation, these centers help seniors live healthily and with dignity within the community. This approach, which focuses on the physical and mental well-being of seniors, aligns closely with the community symbiosis spirit advocated by the "You and I for the Greater Good" project. In particular, the story of Teacher Lin Yu-Min, who won the Gold Medal Hero Award during the event, demonstrated how volunteer services can bridge generations and realize the value of life. At 90 years old, Teacher Lin continues to enthusiastically serve the Yonghe Minquan community center. Her 30-year volunteering career has given her a profound understanding of the meaning of life. During the pandemic, Teacher Lin and her partners established the "Grandpa and Grandma Bear Babies" program to help healthcare workers care for children. One child's farewell, saying, "Grandma, goodbye!" became the driving force for Teacher Lin to continue her selfless service. Through her actions, she interpreted the value of life as being in service and devotion. This spirit deeply inspired the team’s sense of responsibility. After the event, the project team reflected on how to disseminate these successful experiences, particularly how to promote mutual aid and care across generations. Programs like "Grandpa and Grandma Bear Babies" not only alleviated social pressures during the pandemic but also showcased the resilience and creativity of community efforts during special times. In the future, the project team hopes to facilitate more collaboration between professionals and volunteers in the community to combine the needs of seniors with available resources, promoting the vision of "coexistence, co-prosperity, and inclusivity." We also plan to integrate these stories into our courses so that more students can understand the practical value of social responsibility and turn it into concrete actions. Through today’s participation, the team has come to a deeper understanding of the importance of the virtuous cycle concept, believing that even the smallest efforts can create significant changes in the community. These emotions and inspirations will serve as an indispensable source of spiritual strength in the progress of the project. News links: 1.
