The department was established in 1998 and was formerly known as the Dance Department of Taipei City College of Physical Education. It has injected artistic and humanistic water into higher education institutions with expertise in sports, and has become a dance department with both professional depth and breadth. Later, due to the desire to deepen dance art, theory and education, a master's program was established in 2004 to actively cultivate academic research talents in dance education and dance science. In 2013, with the transformation of the school to Taipei City University, the department was also transferred to the College of Humanities and Arts, and directly through cross-border exchanges with other art departments; in 2017, the department added a performance creation group to the master's class of the department to fully cultivate dance performance creative talents The blueprint is deeply cultivated in the practice of cultivating talents in performing arts, creation and education. The course planning of this department is diversified. Over the years, it has cultivated talents covering dance performance art, dance creation, dance education, dance psychology and dance therapy.
