Putting CLIL into Practice in Taiwan

Participants understand the main concepts of CLIL and gain a deeper knowledge of it. The presenter provided examples and explanations for participants to realize how to design a practical lesson as well as become a well-prepared bilingual teacher. A bilingual lesson ought to “assist” teaching, rather than hinder. Through the presentation, “teachers in different fields contribute in different aspects” was conveyed and valued. Since a great deal of teaching materials were demonstrated, participants paying attention to the presentation improved their skills in teaching subject matter in English. The presenter said that young learners usually thought they were fully understanding what the teacher taught in the class, while actually perhaps they did not. Multimodality was highlighted – teachers use sight, sound, print, images, video, music, and so on, that produce meaning in any given message to teach. Participants therefore learned how to teach elementary students better.
