Narrating Monga: A dialogue between literary and historical workers and Gongxing scholars

Bopiliao Historic District is located in Wanhua District, Taipei City, with Laosong Elementary School in the North District, bounded by Kunming Street to the east, Guangzhou Street to the south, and Kangding Road to the west. Since it was classified as a reserved area for Laosong Elementary School in the urban planning during the Japanese colonial period and construction was restricted, the neighborhood still retains the spatial texture developed during the Qing Dynasty and the Japanese colonial period. This event invites Director Zhang Qinpeng of the Taipei City Rural Education Center to have a conversation with Associate Professor Li Tianshen of the Department of Social and Public Affairs of our school, leading students to appreciate the culture, history, industry, and even the current construction and rebirth of the Rural Education Center and Bopiliao Historic District. Through the dialogue, we learned about the main goals of "historic streets taking root in educational fields, and educational activities revitalizing historical streets": 1. Promotion of local education: Shape this area into a three-dimensional local teaching material, and hope to use situational displays and the holding of educational activities to shape it into a local teaching place for primary and secondary school students. 2. Continuation of local culture: Preserve the spatial form of Bopiliao historical district and the spaces with historical significance. Use historical event sites or distinctive traditional industrial spaces as exhibition halls to introduce the historical development of Bopiliao, ordinary people's lives and local special industries, so as to facilitate the continuation and inheritance of local culture. 3. Revitalize the historical district and show the context of the times: The buildings in the Bopiliao historical district have gone through the Qing Dynasty, Japanese rule, and post-Liberation period, showing different architectural vocabulary, spatial meanings and ordinary people’s lives. The changes in their social values and culture have made the district Revitalize a historic mission. In addition, the meals for this event are also specially selected from local stores, so that everyone can better understand the local food culture. Finally, through this activity, we will learn more about how revitalization and reuse can give new life to old buildings, emphasizing the integration of old and new, injecting new power into old neighborhoods, stimulating neighborhood activities, and revitalizing the atmosphere of old streets. It is also expected that the reuse of Bopiliao historical district will not only become a feature of local education in Taipei City, but also become a national and even global local education center.
