This lecture course is delivered by Commissioner Zhuang Shengxiong of the Comprehensive Planning Department of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The topic of the lecture is how to practice society and health. Teacher Katsuo used his experience in school and public sector work to share with students how to implement his concept of eliminating health inequalities. Teacher Shengxiong comes from a rural area in Chiayi County. He later studied at the Department of Education, National Taiwan University, and the Institute of Health Policy and Management at National Taiwan University, where he was exposed to social and health issues. Afterwards, he passed the Civil Service Examination to obtain civil servant qualifications. His experience at the Tainan Guantian Health Center and the Tainan City Health Bureau allowed Mr. Katsuo to understand the importance of frontline work and the hardships that few people know about. Then, units promoted to the central government can start important work such as policy planning. Teacher Katsuo encouraged his students to adopt a social attitude and to have a curious and critical eye (questionable, but not anti-social). If there is an opportunity, everyone is encouraged to apply what they have learned and engage in public health-related work. From the interactions between students and the lecturer during and after class, we can learn about the students' understanding of and investment in the course.
