Introduction to Animal Assisted Therapy
【Overview】 This lecture invited teacher Li Meiyi from the Taiwan Animal Assisted Therapy Professional Development Association, two animal assistants, two interns, and two therapy dogs to interact with the students. During the process, the lecturer first introduced students to some professional knowledge of animal-assisted therapy through narration, and actually led two therapy dogs to interact in the classroom, so that students could combine theory with practice and gain more knowledge about animal-assisted therapy. Interest and knowledge. 【process】 At the beginning of the activity, teacher Meiyi used a briefing to explain what animal-assisted therapy is, its application and effectiveness, and how to interact with dogs. After that, she brought two therapy dogs to the class to interact with students. During the activity, students experienced how to use gestures combined with spoken language to give one-time instructions to dogs. They also experienced some interactive games that are helpful for the elderly and patients with physical disabilities, such as putting a ring on the dog's head. It helps the development of muscles. After many different interactions, the dog is finally allowed to be petted and fed by the students, which stabilizes the dog's mood. At the same time, it also promotes the secretion of dopamine in our brains to achieve healing. Effect. Through a series of practical experiences, students will have a deeper impression and understanding of animal-assisted therapy.
