【USR Hub】"Taipei City University 1+101" Taipei Net-Zero Collaboration Platform Project - Low-Carbon City, Honestly Speaking: The Challenges of Public Participation in Public Transportation and Interdisciplinary Governance

The lecture began by introducing the role of consultancy firms in providing professional services, planning design, and facilitating public participation, emphasizing the importance of combining expert knowledge with public opinion in public affairs. Through examples, the lecture analyzed the necessity of public participation in public transportation system design, particularly in aspects like bus stop information and bus network adjustments. To improve the acceptability and usage rate of public transportation systems, it is essential to fully consider passenger needs and experiences, making information presentation and service design more user-friendly, understandable, and accessible. In terms of citizen participation in public transportation, the lecture showcased case studies demonstrating how community involvement could improve the design of bus stop information to make it more intuitive and comprehensible. It also illustrated how citizens could directly participate in planning bus networks to ensure services align with the actual needs of residents. These examples highlighted the importance of an open and inclusive citizen participation process in enhancing public service quality. Regarding interdisciplinary governance, the lecture explored the challenges and opportunities in achieving effective governance in urban street planning and management. By fostering interdepartmental cooperation, promoting public-private partnerships, and enhancing citizen participation, complex urban traffic issues could be better addressed, advancing low-carbon and sustainable urban development. Finally, the lecture concluded that through citizen participation and interdisciplinary governance, public transportation system efficiency and sustainability can be significantly improved, further promoting the construction of low-carbon cities. By sharing various case studies and experiences, the lecture encouraged stakeholders from different sectors to collaborate and create a more livable, low-carbon urban environment. The entire event not only provided profound insights on how to improve public transportation systems but also emphasized the crucial role of citizen participation and interdisciplinary collaboration in achieving sustainable urban development, offering participants valuable knowledge and inspiration.
