【USR Hub】The “Tianmu Studies” Based on Culture, Life, and Environment: Imagining Low-Carbon Resilient Communities and Local Livable Systems - Local Knowledge Exploration (3) AI Integration into Community Planning

Through in-depth discussions and explanations, this session explored the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in community planning. The speaker introduced the basic concepts of AI, focusing on the concept of "spells" used by ChatGPT: AI models trained on large volumes of text data, designed to simulate human conversation, understand, and generate natural responses. The activity led participants to a deeper understanding of the potential and scope of AI technologies, discussing AI's development and use in various fields, ranging from self-driving cars to medical diagnostics, from voice assistants to smart homes—AI is omnipresent. In particular, the application of AI in community planning offers innovative solutions for communities, such as in traffic management, environmental monitoring, public safety, and more. The speaker further explored the specific applications of AI in community planning, noting that AI can help communities identify and address various issues, improving efficiency and quality of life. At the same time, the speaker also highlighted the challenges and issues that may arise when introducing AI into community planning, such as data privacy and ethical concerns, as well as the need for technical and talent development. This lecture provided participants with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of AI's applications in community planning and inspired them to think about how AI technology could help solve challenges faced by communities, ultimately promoting community development and progress.
