【USR Hub】Playful by Name, Promising a Joyful Life in West Taipei - Management and Practice of Playful Urban Marketing - The Practical Applications of Computerized Geographic Information in Daily Life

Computerized Geographic Information (such as GIS – Geographic Information Systems) plays a crucial role in playful city marketing by leveraging digital maps and geographic data to make it easier for participants to explore the city, while enhancing the interactivity and appeal of activities. Through interactive maps, citizens and tourists can engage in online or offline map exploration games. For instance, participants can download a city-specific map app, use built-in map features to find particular locations, complete tasks, and earn virtual rewards. These apps can integrate landmarks, restaurants, art installations, and other locations in the city, sparking participants’ interest in discovering the city’s unique features during the game. By utilizing GPS and geographic positioning technology, city marketing activities can guide participants to specific locations for tasks. For example, a “City Check-In Challenge” could be designed, where participants find hidden check-in points based on coordinates from the map and complete designated tasks (e.g., taking photos, answering questions, or collecting digital badges), adding more challenge and fun to the activity. At the same time, positioning technology can recommend nearby attractions or dining spots to participants, increasing the practicality and engagement of the activity. By combining GIS, users can instantly share their footprints, photos, and experiences on the map, marking their favorite restaurants or landmarks and sharing them on social media platforms. These personalized geographic markers not only enhance the promotional effect of city marketing but also foster interaction and a community atmosphere among participants, giving the city marketing initiative more life. GIS can also map public facilities (such as parks, restrooms, and parking lots) on the map, making it easier for participants to locate these amenities during their exploration. Furthermore, city governments can use GIS to gather public feedback, allowing participants to mark areas where improvements are needed or offer suggestions, enhancing citizen participation in urban management and boosting the development of smart cities.
