From August 1st (Thursday) to August 2nd (Friday), 2024, Teacher Ying-Hui from the project team held a course titled "Dance Narrative Therapy for Elementary School Group Counseling Application: Emotional Expression, Flow, and Social Skills" at Taipei City University, Bo'ai Campus, on the 3rd floor of Zhongzheng Building. Through this workshop, Teacher Ying-Hui aimed to guide participants in recognizing their own emotions and interaction boundaries using the methods of Dance-Based Narrative Therapy (DBN). The goal was to assist participants in conducting effective emotional communication and counseling for schoolchildren, while also enhancing their emotional regulation and interpersonal interaction abilities. The course integrated concepts of Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) and Narrative Therapy (NT), teaching how to use body movement and elements of dance in a playful and creative way to facilitate learning. Teacher Ying-Hui's planning for the group’s goals and the content counselors needed to understand included the following: 1. **Connection between Body and Emotion**: Understanding the basic context of how body movement relates to emotions. 2. **Awareness of Emotional Expression Context**: Identifying and expressing inner emotions through dance movements. 3. **Group Dynamics and Interaction**: Understanding how movements facilitate group dynamics and interaction. 4. **Creative Expression**: Using elements such as music, rhythm, and movement to stimulate creativity in children and express emotions and their inner world through dance. 5. **Building Group Structure and Practical Application**: Understanding the connection between group stages and goals, and how to apply them in practice. The overall objectives of the workshop were to help participants: 1. **Understand the Basic Concepts of Dance Narrative Therapy**: Learn the relationship between body movements and emotions, and master basic movement vocabulary (Laban Movement Analysis). 2. **Identify Emotions through Body Movements**: Learn how to identify emotional expressions through movements and help schoolchildren externalize and recognize emotions through creative dance. 3. **Practical Application and Techniques**: Master the dance therapy techniques for elementary school counseling groups and design and implement effective emotional support programs for small groups. The project team hoped that through the workshop, participants would develop professional skills and academic knowledge to promote social and emotional well-being and innovative practices, inspire personal interest and understanding of body work, and contribute to the cultivation of expressive arts therapy professionals, leading to self-improvement and societal feedback.
