On November 21, 2024 (Thursday), the project team hosted the "Active and Happy Aging – Handcraft Workshop" at the Minquan Community Development Association in Yonghe District. Below is a summary of the day's activities: The Taipei City University "Mutual Well-being" USR Project collaborated with the Minquan Community Development Association to organize the "Active and Happy Aging – Handcraft Workshop" at the Minquan Community Activity Center in mid-November. This event offered senior residents an opportunity for hands-on interaction and engagement, reflecting the university's commitment to social responsibility and community warmth. Morning Session: Traditional Snack Making The morning session featured a demonstration by volunteer instructors from the association on how to make traditional bite-sized pastries. Seniors and volunteers teamed up to participate in the process, from kneading dough, stuffing fillings, to shaping the snacks. During the hands-on activity, participants shared baking tips and family stories, fostering a sense of connection and emotional bonding through their shared experiences. Once the pastries were finished, participants proudly showcased their creations, gaining a deeper appreciation for the art of snack-making and a sense of joy and accomplishment. Afternoon Session: DIY Personal Tote Bag In the afternoon, the project team guided the seniors in designing and creating personalized tote bags. This session encouraged creativity as seniors engaged in cutting, stitching, and assembling materials to produce uniquely styled bags. Volunteers provided assistance and inspiration throughout the process. As each bag came together, these handcrafted items became symbolic of the collaboration between seniors and volunteers, representing the success of their collective effort. Event Highlights The workshop took place at the Minquan Community Activity Center, a venue equipped with accessible facilities to accommodate seniors. The center's amenities were ideal for hands-on activities. The event welcomed a total of 43 participants, including 30 seniors, 11 volunteers, and 2 members of the project team, ensuring that everyone could fully engage in the crafting experience.
