Picture Books and Me 1. Introduction and Reading Guide to Picture Books by Chen Chih-Yuan •“Missing You(想念)”: This wordless picture book conveys emotions of longing and familial love through delicate illustrations. The author shared his motivation for creating a wordless picture book, the creative process, and his experience with publishing the book. •“On My Way to Buy Eggs(小魚散步)”: Winner of the 13th Hsin-Yi Children’s Literature Award and selected for the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition in Italy. The story follows a little girl, Xiao Yu, who turns an ordinary trip to buy eggs into an exciting adventure through her imagination. The author introduced the story’s content, the background of its creation, and how he depicted the beauty of Taiwan’s streetscapes. •“Guji Guji”: This book has been translated into 18 languages. The author discussed the adaptations made for different countries and shared the book’s international achievements. 2. Sharing Experience in Picture Book Creation •The author talked about why he started creating picture books, as well as the insights and challenges he encountered during the creative process. 3. Story Performances and Extended Activities •The author shared how his books have been performed through kamishibai (paper theater) and drama in different countries. He also discussed interactive activities that help children immerse themselves in the story, such as stepping on fallen leaves or eating cookies. 4. Travel Experiences and Creative Inspiration •The author shared his travel experiences abroad and how these encounters inspired and influenced his creative work.
