University of Taipei and Lanzhou Junior High School Collaborate to Host “STEAM Exploration Camp” and Innovative Curriculum

From February 5 to February 7, 2025, University of Taipei collaborated with Taipei Municipal Lanzhou Junior High School to organize the “STEAM Exploration Camp,” tailored for elementary and junior high school students in the Taipei and New Taipei areas. The camp was divided into beginner and advanced levels based on students’ ages, offering a complete learning journey along with certification of course completion and achievements. This initiative aimed to expand learning opportunities and showcase the value of education for students in both cities. The camp covered a wide range of disciplines including science, programming, sports and health, and aesthetic creation. It was coordinated by the University of Taipei's Center for Teacher Education and Career Development, with several professors leading the courses. The beginner class was led by Professor Chiu Chia-Hui from the Department of Early Childhood Education, who guided students in designing playground equipment—integrating physics, mechanics, and dynamics to inspire creativity. The advanced class was taught by Professor Lee Chuan-Pei from the Department of Applied Physics and Chemistry, focusing on clean energy. Students conducted experiments to learn about hydrogen energy and electrochromic technology. In addition, Professor Lai A-Fu from the Department of Computer Science introduced app programming, guiding students to create a BMI calculator. Professor Fu Ssu-Kai from the Department of Sports and Health Sciences instructed students on health measurement and how AI can be used to enhance athletic performance. Professors Chou Cheng-Wei and Li Chia-Ying from the Department of Visual Arts led students in depicting the beauty of Taipei’s historic architecture through toner transfer and watercolor techniques. On the final day, Professor Hsu Jung-Chung from the Department of History and Geography guided students in field investigations, encouraging them to observe historical culture in their everyday environment and cultivate humanistic literacy and critical thinking, helping them explore their identity through learning. The STEAM Exploration Camp not only enhanced students’ interdisciplinary competencies but also promoted the sharing of educational resources between the two cities. Principal Huang Wei-Chuan of Lanzhou Junior High School expressed gratitude for the strong support from the University of Taipei, calling the program a model for university-secondary school collaboration. Supervisor Chien Ching-Pei from the Taipei City Government Department of Education stated that the city will continue to support STEAM programs and encourage more schools to participate in such initiatives. The University of Taipei will remain committed to promoting high-quality STEAM education, deepening academic exchange and practical experience. More innovative courses will be introduced in the future to provide students with even richer learning opportunities.
