Cultural Design: A Handbook for Reimagining Daily Life
In this lecture, we were honored to have Assistant Professor Yeh Sih-Yin from I-Shou University share her insights with us. Centered around the theme of "Cultural Design," the lecture began with the question, "Why did you come all this way?"—prompting us to reconsider the relationship between travel, culture, and design. Professor Yeh pointed out that the motivation for travel often stems from imagined perceptions of a place, which are largely shaped by representations in media and online platforms. Culture, she emphasized, is not a static accumulation of history, but rather a continuously evolving and imaginative practice. Design plays the role of "recreation" in this process—through observation, image construction, and curatorial translation, design enables new interpretations of culture. This lecture helped us understand that design is not merely about aesthetics; it is a thought process deeply connected to cultural context.
