【USR】Integration and Diffusion of Medical-Elderly Care and Higher Education Perspectives: Constructing a Social Prescription and Linking Worker Innovation and Development Hub - World Alzheimer’s Month

Every September is recognized as World Alzheimer’s Month, and this year we participated in a series of events organized by the Taipei City Government Department of Health and the Taipei City Hospital. The core of the event was an immersive checkpoint-style exhibition, designed to help participants gain a deeper understanding of the daily challenges faced by people living with dementia and their families through interactive experiences. During the exhibition, participants personally experienced scenarios such as memory lapses and cognitive confusion, which vividly conveyed the inconvenience and helplessness patients encounter in daily life. These experiences also underscored the patience and support required from caregivers, reminding us that dementia is not only an individual’s struggle but also a challenge that must be shared by families and society as a whole. As members of the “Social Prescription” program at the University of Taipei, we also assisted on-site with activity promotion and participant guidance. Through this hands-on involvement, we not only deepened our understanding of dementia but also realized how professional knowledge can be integrated with community needs. This experience served as an extension of classroom learning, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and social support. This year’s World Alzheimer’s Month activities reminded us that only through collective effort can society create a more dementia-friendly and empathetic environment.
