The beginning-of-term member meeting helps freshmen build their commitment to the departmental society and helps them better understand the academic year's activities. The subsequent used book auction allows freshmen to purchase original books at a lower price, increasing the purchase rate of original books while allowing seniors to pass on books they may not need, thus reducing waste.
