Texture and tactile sensation are the surface characteristics of an object perceived through sight and touch. Tactile sensation (or feel) is the actual sensation felt through touch, such as softness, roughness, or smoothness. Texture, on the other hand, encompasses both tactile and visual sensations; even without touching, one can anticipate the tactile sensation of an object simply by observing its visual characteristics (such as gloss, texture, and shadow). Together, they constitute the first impression an object gives and influence emotions and perceptions.
