Embedding SDGs into English picture book teaching
This lecture aims to teach students how to incorporate SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) topics into English picture books. The speaker began by explaining the importance of integrating SDG themes into picture books, emphasizing that these books not only serve as an excellent medium for introducing students to SDG-related issues, but also broaden their worldview as they learn English. The speaker then demonstrated through practical class examples how to encourage children to think about sustainability issues within the context of a story, fostering both language skills and a sense of agency. This approach transforms English lessons into a starting point for inspiring critical thinking and changing the world. Through this lecture, students will not only learn how to incorporate SDG topics into English picture book teaching, enhancing their ability to design effective curricula, but also how to use picture books to guide students in thinking about sustainability issues. This approach helps cultivate critical thinking and a sense of action, combining English learning with global citizenship awareness and realizing the social value of education.
