From Sound to the Sound of Water: A Sensory Environmental Journey (Part Two): The Ecology and Environmental Protection of a Flowing River
This "Wayaogou Immersive Puzzle Solving and Ecological Walking Tour" course focuses on environmental education and local exploration, combining picture book stories, immersive puzzle solving, ecological observation, and community walking tours to allow participants to learn through games and understand the land through experience. The activity uses the Wayaogou watershed and surrounding alleys as its setting, guiding participants to discover environmental details that are often overlooked, such as the remains of tile kilns and the elevation differences in the river channel, through obstacle courses, photo interactions, and guided tours. The course combines fun and knowledge, fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills while deepening participants' understanding of the city's history and ecological context. The afternoon's ecological walk allowed participants to observe the current state of the Wayao Ditch, learn about the environmental impact of household wastewater and water quality changes, and personally operate a simple water quality testing kit, experiencing citizen science in practice. Finally, participants visited the Green Bookstore, where owner Mr. Yeh introduced the "Ugly Mud Monster" themed restaurant and local partner businesses, followed by group discussions and poster creation sharing. The event coincided with the 12th anniversary of Green Bookstore, creating a lively atmosphere. Participants also interacted with adorable retired guide dogs, bringing the event to a warm and meaningful close.
