114-1 Alumni Homecoming Lecture Series 2: ‘Empowering Through Words: New Career Horizons for Chinese Studies Graduates’
Lecturer Lai Junming's career journey serves as a precise “cross-disciplinary roadmap” for Chinese literature students. For students similarly grounded in Chinese literature yet eager to explore technology and business, the lecturer's journey from the humanities into electrical engineering, human resources, and digital transformation not only breaks free from disciplinary boundaries but also reveals the boundless potential of integrating academic training with professional practice. This provides students with a clear and viable career path, solidifying their confidence in pursuing cross-disciplinary development. The profound insight lies in “translation”: what was once viewed as purely academic text interpretation and analytical skills can be transformed into the deep analytical ability to “extract core contexts” from complex information in the workplace. Leveraging practical experience from HR internships in the tech industry and the STP Seed Talent Training Program (Medical Technology Track), the instructor helped students clearly position themselves within the proposed quadrants: “Corporate Communicator and Manager” and “Cross-Border and Digital Application Specialist.” This approach transcends the dichotomy between humanities and business, instead highlighting the critical advantage of translating humanistic depth into precise business decision-making. The instructor's “4D Strategy” helps students understand that resumes merely ‘verify’ experience, while portfolios serve as the critical medium to “demonstrate” the results of translation. The aspiration is to refine this “rare ore” of Chinese literature through practical tempering, transforming it into a “composite alloy” tailored for the digital age. At the intersection of technology and humanities, this process creates irreplaceable, unique value.
