Fundamentals of Fuxing Quan

This activity combined practical and theoretical sessions under the theme “Fundamentals of Fuxing Quan and the Interplay of Individual, Nation, Body, and History.” It was jointly organized by the courses Contemporary and Modern Literary History and Martial Arts, allowing students from both classes to engage in cross-class learning, achieving the goal of integrating literary and martial practices and fostering mind-body harmony. At 8:00 a.m., students from the Literary History class went to the dance studio, where Martial Arts instructor Tsai Miao-Wu personally guided them through the fundamentals of Fuxing Quan. The session began with standing postures, footwork, fist techniques, and breathing exercises, with the instructor leading students to experience physical openness and the spiritual power embedded in traditional martial arts. Many students, previously unfamiliar with martial arts, gained a deep sense of connection between body and culture through hands-on practice. In summary, this activity not only enhanced students’ cultural perception and learning retention but also established an interdisciplinary learning platform using the body as a medium and martial arts as a bridge. From theory to practice, it encouraged active participation and opened students’ minds and bodies to a fresh understanding and imagination of traditional culture.
