Life After Graduating from the Chinese Language Department
Today we invited alumna Yan Ting'en from the Class of 2019 to share her post-graduation life and work experiences. First, she discussed how she explored her interests during university to discover her post-graduation identity. In her professional journey, she emphasized striving for life balance, ensuring her work complements her personal pursuits. Additionally, she advised that when job hunting, one might consider roles initially less appealing or focus on mitigating the most challenging aspects of a position. This approach helps develop resilience and self-protection strategies. Finally, she highlighted the career advantages of a Chinese literature background, including strengths in textual information processing, clear communication, and logical organization. For those uncertain about pursuing graduate studies versus entering the workforce after graduation, she suggested starting with a job. This could provide a sense of accomplishment and financial independence. When considering further education later, one could weigh the opportunity costs of both paths to deepen their expertise. She concluded by encouraging her juniors: “Be brave in trying new things and enjoy the journey.” Strive to realize the lifestyle you truly love.
