Higher Education Deepening Lecture Series - Yu-Ting Cheng“The Superpower of the Energetic Body — A Michael Chekhov Technique Workshop”

She holds an MFA in Acting from The New School for Drama in New York and is a U.S. Fulbright Scholar. She currently serves as Artistic Director of the Taipei Theatre Lab and as Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre at Taipei National University of the Arts. A theatre artist who integrates playwriting, directing, and performance, her works have been presented at major arts festivals and by leading theatre companies. Renowned for her versatility in musical and movement-based forms, her flamboyant, humorous, and provocative style has earned her directing works the Grand Prize at the Taipei Fringe Festival and a nomination for the Taishin Arts Award. After returning to Taiwan from New York in 2010, she has devoted herself to the research and promotion of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique. She is the first pioneer in Taiwan to systematically introduce this technique and has expanded its pedagogy across film, theatre, dance, opera, and musical theatre. Her achievements have received significant international attention and recognition, establishing her as one of the most representative Michael Chekhov teachers in Asia. Rather than focusing solely on external movement, this approach emphasizes the flow and projection of energy to enter a freer realm of psychological and physical expression. Through guided exercises, participants learn to sense and awaken their energetic body, allowing it to become the key to movement, emotion, and imagery. She leads students into the imaginative and playful creative world of the Michael Chekhov Technique.
