Application and Development Practices of Open Systems (Linux)
The session “Industry Applications and Practical Development of Open Systems (Linux)” was organized as an industry expert integration activity for the Open Systems course. It was held on the afternoon of November 25 in Room 509 of the Gongcheng Building, featuring Mr. Jason Lin, a consultant from I-Zone Information Inc., as the guest speaker. With extensive experience in enterprise consulting and system integration—having previously served at Microsoft Taiwan, Infortrend USA, and Vitria Technology—the guest lecturer brought industry-relevant insights that greatly enriched the course content. The lecture focused on Linux and open systems, beginning with the philosophy behind free software and open-source development. The speaker provided an in-depth explanation of open-source licenses such as GPL, MIT, and Apache, and discussed their practical implications for enterprise software development. Through case studies of major global companies such as Google, Apple, Meta, and AWS, the lecture illustrated how cloud services, AI training, embedded devices, and supercomputing infrastructures heavily rely on Linux, helping students understand its essential role in modern technology. On the technical side, the speaker introduced Linux’s core design concepts, including “everything is a file,” modular architecture, multi-user permission management, and script-driven automation. He also demonstrated real-world industry practices such as server administration, containerization (Docker), Nginx reverse proxy configuration, and database performance considerations, enabling students to clearly see how Linux operates within enterprise-level systems. The speaker further offered practical learning pathways, encouraging students to explore tools such as WSL2, macOS terminals, and Proxmox virtualization environments. Through this industry-integrated lecture, students not only deepened their understanding of open systems but also gained a clearer view of how Linux connects to modern industrial technologies, offering valuable guidance for future coursework and career development.
