Li Yuwen, “The Rhythm of the Body in Moving Images — Dance × Image = ∞”
When “dance” encounters “light and shadow,” what kind of sparks are created? Dance film is not merely a recording of stage performance, but an entirely new art form—one that frees bodily movement from the physical limits of the stage and breaks the convention of audiences watching only from their seats. Through the camera, the details of dance, the texture of movement, and the dialogue between bodies are magnified, allowing different kinds of beauty to emerge from every angle. In this talk, the speaker shares his experience in creating dance films, tracing his journey from early experiments to the exploration of more mature works, and guiding the audience to understand how dance, light, and moving images can merge into a unified language. Using his own works as examples, he analyzes how movement, imagery, and landscape respond to one another to generate creativity and tension, while also revealing the artistic thinking and methods behind dance film production. This lecture is not only a sharing of techniques, but an exploration of imagination. Audiences are invited to witness how body, light, space, and image interact, and to rediscover the possibilities of dance. Whether you are a dance practitioner, a filmmaker, or simply someone curious about the fusion of dance and moving images, this experience offers inspiration and a new perspective, along with the emotional resonance that dance film can bring.
