Zhishanyan Trail Environmental Education and Leisure Experience Activity
"Zhishanyan Trail Environmental Education and Leisure Experience Activity." Zhishanyan is located in Shilin District. It is a small hill with convenient transportation, reachable by foot from MRT Zhishan Station, making it very suitable for urban residents to conduct leisure hiking. The activity started from the entrance of Huiji Temple and proceeded along the circular wooden boardwalk. The trail design is flat and wide, mostly consisting of wooden planks and concrete surfaces, with a total length of approximately 1.4 to 2.9 kilometers. The gradient is moderate, suitable for participants of all ages, and even wheelchairs can pass through. The trail is shaded by green trees with fresh air and filled with forest phytoncides, effectively relieving the stress of urban life. It allows participants to naturally relax and interact during the walk, fully demonstrating the social and therapeutic functions of leisure sports. The environmental education value of the Zhishanyan Trail is extremely high. This site is Taiwan's first archaeological site, with strata covering seven cultural layers, ranging from the prehistoric Dapenkeng culture to the Han culture of the Qing Dynasty, preserving marine fossils and shellfish trace fossils from over 20 million years ago. Unique rocks such as Snake-Frog Rock, Onion Rock, and the Four Great Kings can be observed on the trail. The guided tour provided in-depth introductions to geological changes and fossil groups, giving participants a profound understanding of the long evolution of Earth's history. Regarding vegetation, the trail preserves rich native coastal plants, strangler plants, and wetland plants, including soapberry trees and century-old camphor trees; the surprising ecological diversity is impressive. The installation of the wooden boardwalk is specifically intended to protect the easily weathered sandstone layer and avoid surface damage caused by trampling, embodying practical environmental protection actions. Furthermore, historical and cultural attractions further enriched the activity content. Huiji Temple, the West Battlements (a city-designated monument), the Tomb of the Six Teachers, and the battery ruins connect the historical context of the Zhishanyan Incident and the National Language Training Center during the Japanese colonial period. The perfect combination of natural landscapes and cultural monuments makes the hiking process both informative and interesting. This activity successfully combined sports, environmental education, and cultural exploration, not only promoting physical health but also enhancing participants' environmental awareness and team cohesion. For the field of leisure sports management, such activities fully demonstrate how to integrate educational elements into leisure experiences to create an urban oasis for physical and mental balance, which is worth promoting and continuing.
