On September 15, 2025, University of Taipei welcomed a delegation of faculty and students from Shimane University, led by Vice President KATAOKA Yoshimi. President Ying-Hao Chiu of our university met with Vice President Kataoka to exchange views on future academic exchanges and potential areas of collaboration, establishing more concrete directions for cooperation and demonstrating the shared commitment to deepening higher education exchanges between Taiwan and Japan. During the opening ceremony, Dr. Chia-Hsin Ho , Dean of the Office of International Affairs, extended a warm welcome on behalf of our university and emphasized the importance of sustaining exchanges between UT and Shimane University. Vice President Kataoka expressed gratitude for the gracious reception and expressed her hope that this study program would further strengthen bilateral collaboration. The ceremony also featured an exchange of commemorative gifts, symbolizing the continuation of friendship and cooperation. The two-week program included a rich and diverse schedule. In addition to practical Mandarin classes, the itinerary featured cultural experiences such as seal engraving and pineapple cake making, as well as visits to key Taiwanese landmarks including the National Palace Museum, the Presidential Office Building, and Dadaocheng. Participants also enjoyed Taiwan’s culinary specialties, such as Din Tai Fung’s soup dumplings, Shilin Night Market delicacies, and traditional hot pot. By combining coursework with cultural immersion, our university sought to provide visiting faculty and students with a deeper understanding of Taiwanese society and culture. The visit of Shimane University’s delegation not only fostered youth exchange between Taiwan and Japan but also further strengthened the partnership between the two universities. Through continued academic exchange and cultural interaction, both institutions aim to expand areas of cooperation, deepen collaboration, and jointly advance the internationalization of higher education.
