Univeristy of Essex Visits the University of Taipei to Stjrengthen Dual Degree Programs and International Collaboration

The Office of International Affairs at the University of Taipei hosted an information session on October 23 featuring the University of Essex, UK. The event, led by Mr. Kevin Tan, Regional Manager of Essex, introduced the joint degree and exchange programs between the two universities, explaining the models of cooperation and application procedures. The session drew enthusiastic participation from faculty and students of the Departments of Psychology and Counseling, English Instruction, and Marketing and Management. The lively interaction throughout the session reflected the University of Taipei students' strong motivation to broaden their international horizons. This event marked another step toward deepening academic collaboration and creating diverse pathways for further study abroad. UT and the University of Essex have maintained a long-standing partnership. The two universities are now expanding their cooperation through three major program models: 2+2 Dual Bachelor's Degree: Students complete the first two years at University of Taipei and the remaining two years at Essex, earning bachelor’s degrees from both institutions. 3+1 Bachelor's + Master's Degree: Students study three years at University of Taipei and one year at Essex to obtain a UK master’s degree—one of the most popular options. 1+1 Dual Master's Degree: Graduate students spend their first year at University of Taipei and their second year at Essex to receive master’s degrees from both universities. Undergraduate applicants must have a minimum GPA of 70% and an IELTS score of 6.5 (some Psychology programs require 7.0). Students who fall slightly short of the language requirement may enroll in Essex’s Pre-sessional English courses (five or ten weeks) to prepare for academic study. To encourage UT students to apply, Essex offers generous scholarships and tuition discounts: £5,000 for the 2+2 Dual Bachelor's Program £6,500 for the 3+1 or 1+1 Master's Programs An additional Early Bird Discount of £1,000 for early tuition payment In total, students may receive up to £7,500 (approximately NT$300,000) in financial benefits, automatically deducted from tuition—no separate application is required. The estimated annual cost of study, including tuition, housing, and living expenses, ranges from NT$1.2 to 1.4 million, which is highly competitive among UK universities. Students are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during their studies and may apply for a Graduate Route Visa to remain in the UK for 1.5 years after graduation to gain professional experience. During the Q&A session, faculty and students raised questions about program structures, English requirements, and application timelines. Mr. Tan emphasized Essex's commitment to its partnership with the University of Taipei and expressed hopes for continued collaboration to provide more opportunities for students to pursue international learning and research. This event not only provided valuable information about overseas study options but also highlighted the University of Taipei's strong dedication to expanding global partnerships. The University of Taipei will continue to strengthen its collaborations with leading institutions across Europe, America, and Asia, empowering its students to shine on the global stage.
