Community health and welfare services project in Shezidao, Taipei
This activity collaborates with neighboring communities of the university to fulfill the institution's social responsibility. Through this project, we actively promote community health enhancement. By providing services in the community, students can apply the theories and concepts from the department's core courses in practice, conduct field investigations and service activities, foster mutual learning between the university and the community, and ultimately cultivate students' abilities in research and problem-solving. The activities are divided into three groups: Epidemiology, Environmental Health, and Health Education. First, Epidemiology Group, the influence of diet and lifestyle on obesity prevalence among residents of Shezidao. Activities involve collecting local information and data related to obesity, and exploring how residents' dietary habits, lifestyle factors (physical activity, sleep patterns, sedentary behavior), health knowledge, and weight management behaviors affect obesity prevalence. The target population for the survey and interviews is community residents aged 18 and above. Second, Environmental Health Group, the activities focus on surveying and interviewing residents to assess their awareness of various environmental pollutants and their corresponding coping behaviors. The target population is also community residents aged 18 and above. Third, Health Education Group, the target participants are students in grades 1–6 at Fu-An Elementary School. With the school's assistance in announcement and recruitment, we design and deliver health education sessions. The topics include helping students develop the concept of balanced diet, recognize high-sugar and high-fat foods, increase daily physical activity levels, and extend healthy behaviors to the family level—encouraging parents and children to adopt healthier lifestyles together. After collecting the relevant data, the project will first perform preliminary data cleaning and error checking. Descriptive statistical analysis will then be conducted to present the distribution and characteristics of each item.
