【2025 Intensive Mandarin Program】Outdoor Cultural Class - Pottery Making in Yingge

On March 12, 2025, Teacher Huang Sih-Tong from the Chinese Language Intensive Program and Teacher Chen Zhi-Hao from the International Office, along with their students, visited Yingge in New Taipei City for a fun and engaging pottery experience. We first arrived at a local pottery workshop, where the students learned how to use a potter's wheel to create their desired pieces under the guidance of a professional instructor. Everyone was curious and enthusiastic about the activity. Each student crafted their favorite shapes, such as flowers and hearts, paying attention to every detail with great care. Afterward, the students used bamboo sticks to carve their names and unique designs onto their pottery, making each piece personalized and special. Once the pottery experience was completed, we took a leisurely stroll through the Yingge Old Street, savoring the unique cultural atmosphere of this small town. Yingge Old Street not only preserves Taiwan's traditional small-town charm but also is rich in local cultural features. The students were able to feel the deep historical vibes and the charm of Taiwan's regional culture. This activity allowed the international students to not only learn pottery skills but also immerse themselves in Taiwan’s distinctive culture and humanistic spirit. Everyone had a wonderful time and gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan's traditional culture, creating memories that will be cherished for a long time.
