Non-Profit Organization Introduction:iSTART

We invited expert speaker Mr. Chiu Hsien-Hsiang to deliver a lecture, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of drug addiction issues and the necessity of integrated medical care. The lecture highlighted that drug addiction is not merely a personal health problem; it encompasses broader social, psychological, and economic dimensions, requiring cross-disciplinary collaboration to address effectively. The speaker emphasized that an integrated addiction treatment center should focus on deep-rooted development and promotion, offering a multidimensional and multi-layered treatment model to serve more individuals in need. Particularly impressive was the center's person-centered approach as its core principle: tailoring rehabilitation plans according to each patient's background and specific needs. For example, combining cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with pharmacotherapy can effectively reduce relapse rates. This realization underscored that a single medical model is insufficient to meet the diverse challenges of addiction. Collaboration among cross-professional teams is indispensable. By proactively conducting health education for high-risk groups, we can prevent the onset of substance use disorders. Furthermore, short-term interventions—such as motivational enhancement techniques—can encourage young cases to seek assessment and treatment
