114 Years - USR - Social Prescription Workshop

This lecture aims to guide students to understand the diverse forms of social welfare systems for people with disabilities and to comprehend the application value of "social prescriptions" in promoting mental and social health. The course starts with theory and combines practical case studies to help students build a holistic view of policy advocacy, cultural equality, and community care.Teacher Wang first introduced the private health insurance in the United States, the universal healthcare system in the United Kingdom, and the hybrid model in Taiwan, emphasizing that social welfare is a basic right that everyone should enjoy and should not be regarded merely as a subsidy or relief.Dr. Liu then shared the concept of "social prescriptions," explaining how social connections such as art, culture, activities, and community participation can help promote the mental health and well-being of the elderly and those with dementia. Finally, Professor Huang introduced how museums can serve as practical venues for cultural equality and health promotion, showcasing several user-friendly designs and innovative activities that support people with disabilities and dementia. The overall course enhanced students' understanding of welfare systems and cross-disciplinary intervention strategies, encouraging them to consider how to combine their professional knowledge with social concern to engage in support for vulnerable groups and public service work in the future.
