114th Year - USR - Cultural Prescription - Easy-to-Read Mobile Teaching Kit for Cultural Centers and Dementia-Friendly Training Workshop
This lecture aims to cultivate students' sensitivity to the needs of people with dementia and intellectual disabilities in terms of information comprehension, social participation, and cultural engagement. Through practical workshops, it strengthens their ability to design and apply easily readable information. The course begins by introducing the definitions and differences between dementia and intellectual disabilities, helping to establish correct care concepts and understand the importance of respect and empathy. The instructor pointed out that compared to the past approach of "compliance or coaxing" patients, today's emphasis should be on respectful communication and comprehensible information. The course then introduced the "Easy-to-Read Design Guidelines" and the "Easy-to-Read Mobile Teaching Kit for Cultural Centers," guiding participants in creating easy-to-read manuals and emphasizing the key elements of clear language, intuitive layout, and visual aids. The lecture also explained the future development trends of easily readable information, including digital and multimedia applications, and pointed out that this tool should not be limited to specific groups with disabilities, but should be extended to a diverse range of people, including the elderly and new immigrants. Finally, through group exercises and hands-on practice of STEEP (Self-Directed Learning Program) techniques for interacting with dementia patients, students experienced interacting with elderly people with dementia firsthand, learning how to achieve respect and effective dialogue through appropriate non-verbal and simplified language communication. The overall course combined theory and practical operation, enhancing students' professional competence in interdisciplinary application and cultural care.
