114 Years of Service and Reflection on USR - A Full-Time Institution for People with Intellectual Disabilities - Sharing Work Experience from Leshan Rehabilitation Center

Lecturer: Chang Chia-fang (CEO of the An-Halving Care Foundation) This lecture aims to guide students to gain a deeper understanding of the care services and operational realities received by individuals with intellectual disabilities in full-time care facilities, and to reflect on the advantages and challenges of institutional care systems from the perspective of practitioners. Through CEO Chang's sharing of her work experience at the Leshan Rehabilitation Center, students will gain insight into the actual needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities in areas such as daily living care, medical coordination, psychological support, and interpersonal interaction. They will also further understand how institutional workers maintain service quality and respect the autonomy of service recipients under limited resources and high care pressure. The lecture also discusses the connection between institutions and the community, reflecting on the possibility of promoting humanistic, deinstitutionalized, and socially inclusive approaches within the existing welfare policies and social resources. Through the sharing of real-life experiences, students will not only grasp the basic operational logic of social welfare institutions but also develop empathy and reflection on an emotional and ethical level, laying an important foundation for future practical services or policy advocacy.
