114-Year USR - Social Welfare Research Course for People with Disabilities
This lecture, "When Disability Assessment and Special Education Assessment Are Not Synchronized – A Case Study of Childhood ADHD," aims to guide students in understanding the institutional gap between Taiwan's disability assessment system and special education assessment mechanisms. Through a presentation by Dr. Liu Wei-hong, a family medicine specialist with extensive clinical experience, the course delves into the evolution of the system, assessment standards, and the practical operation of functional limitation assessments. It also guides students to reflect on the impact of assessment results on educational placement and resource access. Using children with ADHD as a core case study, the lecture clarifies their neurobehavioral characteristics and diagnostic criteria, further discussing the policy controversies and social perspectives regarding their inclusion in current disability categories. Through concrete case analysis and systemic analysis, students can move beyond single perspectives and establish a cross-disciplinary understanding and dialogue perspective among medical, educational, and family stakeholders. This course aims to cultivate students' critical thinking and practical sensitivity when facing issues of disability identification and resource allocation, further enhancing their professional judgment and responsiveness in special education, social work, and public policy.
