114 Years of USR - The Creativity of Eccentrics and Social Prescriptions: A Creative Dialogue Between USR and SEL
Wei Chia-yu, Senior Marketing Manager of the "Weirdo Project" at the Lung Chung Upward Foundation, opened the event with the documentary "I Will Always Love You." This film tells the story of Wen Kuo-shih, the son of a man with schizophrenia, and how he overcomes the shadow of his family life to dedicate himself to education, serving students in rural areas and from dysfunctional families. The Lung Chung Upward Foundation is committed to advocating for social issues. In collaboration with Golden Horse Award-winning director Yang Li-chou, it produces a series of documentaries called the "Weirdo Film Festival," covering a wide range of topics including gender equality, medical science, migrant worker rights, and environmental conservation. Speaker Wei Chia-yu shared how the Lung Chung Upward Foundation extends the "Weirdo Film Festival" into more diverse projects, such as inviting teachers to write lesson plans that incorporate documentaries into the classroom, prompting students to reflect on social issues. Professors and students in attendance exchanged ideas on how to bring this model to Taipei City University to enhance student social participation. Despite Taipei University's traditional teacher training background, in recent years, in response to social changes, more and more students have chosen to pursue diverse career paths. The foundation and professors encourage students to try different things, engage in social welfare during their university years, and broaden their horizons.
