Workshop: Let’s Get Started! An Interdisciplinary STEAM Class Time: Tuesday, April 7, 1:00–3:00 p.m. Topic: Let’s Get Started! An Interdisciplinary STEAM Class Instructor: Ms. Huang Yizhen, Rixin Elementary School Participants: Second-year students in the Department of Education Location: Room G415, Gongcheng Building Course Content: Phase 1: The instructor will begin with an introductory session to assess students’ current understanding of STEAM and identify their questions regarding the subject. Students will be asked to anonymously answer questions using Padlet. Phase 2: The instructor will explain the definition of STEAM, which comprises five major disciplines: science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The goal of STEAM education is to foster problem-solving skills and emphasize hands-on abilities and methodologies. Phase 3: Case studies of STEAM courses were presented, and students were given the opportunity to actively participate in a STEAM activity. Through hands-on activities, asking questions, observation, an introduction to wheels and axles, a timed competition, sharing adjustments, and receiving feedback, students experienced which skills they could apply to complete group tasks in a STEAM course. Phase 4: The final phase consisted of learning reflection and feedback.
