114 Years - USR - Truly Understanding Your Heart - Connecting with People with Disabilities Through Cards
Lecturer: Hsiao Chun-Yu, Psychologist This lecture uses "Truth or Dare Cards" as an intervention medium to help participants understand the multiple pressures, emotional burdens, and relational tensions faced by individuals with disabilities and their families in the caregiving process. Many caregivers, facing long-term companionship therapy, insufficient professional resources, lack of social support, and unequal expectations from family roles, often experience emotional exhaustion, isolation, and self-doubt. Through guided activities such as body scanning, card selection, emotional awareness, and interactive sharing, the psychologist enables participants to engage in self-awareness, expression, and healing in a safe atmosphere without having to reveal their private lives. The course emphasizes the professional viewpoint that "emotional healing is more important than emotional disclosure," reminding participants that in future educational or helping work settings, companionship and resilience should be the core focus to prevent individuals from being hurt again in vulnerable states. Through the use of positive language and non-verbal media, participants learn how to interact with others in a gentler, more respectful, and understanding way, which can also be applied to student counseling, parent communication, and self-care. The overall course not only enhances helpers' professional sensitivity but also deepens their understanding of family systems and the psychological needs of people with disabilities.
