114 Years - USR - Art Prescription - A Healing Journey for Body and Mind Accompanied by Creation
Lecturer: Lin Wei, PhD in Art (Japan) This lecture aims to guide participants to understand the practical value of art as a medium for emotional support and life narrative, focusing on "art as a medium for emotional support and life narrative." Drawing on her professional background as a PhD in Art (Japan), Dr. Lin shares her multifaceted perspectives as an art student, creator, and family caregiver. She recounts how art became a crucial means of emotional regulation, understanding the emotional changes associated with dementia, and building parent-child bonds during her father's life journey through dementia, caregiving, and passing. She further explains her current observations of accompanying her mother with mild dementia through therapy and art classes, and how she has gradually developed an art prescription curriculum design tailored to the Taiwanese family context, starting from the caregiving environment, emotional understanding, and cultural context. In the latter half of the lecture, the lecturer guides all participants through a hands-on activity, using acrylic paints, brushes, and freehand techniques to create a festive artwork themed around Christmas in December. Through physical touch, color experience, and creative freedom, participants gain a practical understanding of how art intervention can promote emotional expression, reduce stress, enhance self-understanding, and build community connections. This lecture aims to encourage faculty and students to view dementia care and art therapy from a more empathetic and culturally sensitive perspective, and to further promote practical cooperation between the campus and the community in humanistic care and art-driven health.
