2026_1142_115 Ministry of Education Subsidized Teacher Training Enhancement Program, Subproject E Series Lecture 1: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Taiwanese Picture Book Creation
Ms. Sun Hsin-Yu stated that her creative philosophy is deeply influenced by the interplay between nature and human culture. When humans explore and document nature, the vehicles they use and the people accompanying them inevitably disturb and damage the environment. Although such journeys allow close observation of animals, the traces of disturbance left behind create a sense of contradiction in the act of observation. Most of her picture book works are inspired by travel, with ideas also rooted in cultural heritage. Ms. Sun shared her travel experiences in India and Nepal, which enabled her to present more realistic elements in her picture book creations. During her journey to Antarctica, she learned about the story of Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance, which later became the inspiration for her work The Journey of A68. She collaborated with Shoushan Zoo in Kaohsiung to produce Dear Faraway. The teacher discussed her creative philosophy and shared her personal thoughts on the concept and role of “zoos.”
