From Policy to Implementation: Challenges and Practices in Sports Talent Selection
This course, titled “From Policy to Practice: Challenges and Applications in Sports Talent Identification,” is designed to help students understand the theoretical foundations, policy context, and practical implementation of sports talent identification systems. The course begins by introducing the core concepts of talent identification, including athlete recognition, long-term development, stage-based training, and resource allocation, while emphasizing the importance of systematic design in competitive sports development. It then examines common challenges in practice, such as inconsistent evaluation standards for physical and performance characteristics, differences in biological maturation, unequal distribution of training resources, and the gap between institutional design and field implementation. Finally, through domestic and international case studies and practical examples, students will explore how policy concepts can be translated into feasible talent identification strategies. The course aims to strengthen students’ ability to integrate sports science, coaching practice, and policy perspectives, thereby enhancing their understanding of talent development and real-world application in sports settings.
