【Lecture】 Application of Diversified Monitoring Technologies in Surface Deformation Monitoring

In this presentation titled "Application of Diversified Monitoring Technologies in Surface Deformation Monitoring," Dr. Chen Yi-An, General Manager of Green Environmental Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., will guide the audience to witness the powerful integration of traditional geotechnical engineering and modern digital technology. Taiwan's geological environment harbors many invisible crises, such as the surface-shaking "living basin" phenomenon in Nantou's Toushe Basin caused by the high water content of peat soil , and the severe challenges to High-Speed Rail track safety posed by severe land subsidence in central and southern Taiwan. To address these problems that traditional engineering methods struggle to solve, Dr. Chen will introduce how to construct a "3D cross-scale diversified monitoring network". This system utilizes InSAR satellite radar in space for large-scale observation and GNSS systems on the surface for precise positioning. Coupled with a magnetic ring multi-layer compaction monitoring well reaching 300 meters underground, it can pinpoint the root cause of land subsidence with millimeter-level precision. Furthermore, the lecture will share the data alchemy of moving "from the mud to the cloud". It will explain how the team uses Python automation to process massive and messy field monitoring data and combines AI machine learning to build prediction models. Paired with an intuitive UI/UX visual dashboard, this transforms passive, reactive repairs into proactive risk management that prevents problems before they occur. Finally, using the successful achievement of "zero significant subsidence" for the Yunlin High-Speed Rail as an example , Dr. Chen will encourage the audience to cultivate cross-disciplinary "superpowers" that combine engineering, data science, and communication. By refusing to be limited by their academic majors, they can become the new generation of "data-driven Earth guardians".
