Initial training for teaching assistants

This semester’s Teaching Assistant (TA) Training Workshop was designed to deepen TAs' core understanding of their roles and responsibilities while elevating the quality of classroom support through a benchmark learning model. The session commenced with a systematic clarification of rights and obligations, emphasizing that TAs serve not only as conveyors of knowledge but as vital conduits for faculty-student communication and the smooth execution of instructional activities. Regarding obligations, TAs are expected to strictly adhere to administrative protocols—ranging from the timely submission of required documents and the maintenance of digital learning platforms to the diligent recording of teaching logs and tracking student progress—all of which form the bedrock of sustained educational quality. In terms of rights and protections, the university provides basic stipends and labor insurance, complemented by a comprehensive training system and consultation channels. These resources encourage TAs to embrace innovation in their teaching practice. Furthermore, an end-of-semester award mechanism has been established to recognize those who make outstanding contributions, thereby fostering a sense of professional identity. The latter half of the workshop focused on practical insights shared by previous "Distinguished TAs." These award-winning speakers emphasized that the essence of a TA extends beyond administrative tasks; they should act as "mentors" who ignite students' passion for learning. They demonstrated how to utilize digital tools and social media to energize classroom interaction and how to translate complex theoretical frameworks into accessible narratives. Finally, the speakers encouraged all TAs to view this experience as a "mini-laboratory" for their future careers, refining their logical organization and leadership skills while mentoring others. Overall, this training not only standardized administrative implementation but also infused the role of the TA with profound educational value and a sense of professional mission.
