Fieldwork Experiences in Rural Area Integrated Planning
The lecture “Fieldwork Experience Sharing in Rural Area Integrated Planning” invites Ting-Hua Wu, Executive Director of Urban-Rural Intertidal Zone, to share her practical experience in rural planning. Rural area integrated planning is not only about land use and spatial arrangement, but also involves local industries, residents’ daily lives, environmental resources, and community culture. Therefore, fieldwork plays an essential role in understanding local contexts. Through site visits, interviews with residents, and on-site observation, planners are able to better understand local needs and develop planning strategies that respond to the unique characteristics of each place. In this lecture, the speaker will share practical cases and explain how to collect information, identify key issues, and communicate with local communities in rural areas. The talk will also highlight the importance of fieldwork throughout the planning process and show how planners balance professional knowledge, planning systems, and local everyday life. Through this event, students can gain a clearer understanding of how rural area integrated planning is carried out in practice. The lecture also provides an opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world planning experience, encouraging them to further reflect on the possibilities of future work in urban-rural planning and local development.
