115th Academic Year Drone Workshop
This was a fantastic experience that moved from theory to practice, from a static classroom to dynamic hands-on learning. It covered regulatory education, flight principles, simulator exercises, outdoor hands-on operation, and aerial image processing, providing a new and comprehensive understanding of the role of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in modern space science. The indoor courses first established a solid foundation in regulations and safety concepts, emphasizing the importance of checking no-fly zones and conducting pre-flight checks; "safety" is the first principle of professional flying. The subsequent simulator exercises tested hand-eye coordination, using joystick adjustments to build spatial awareness. When the workshop moved outdoors for hands-on operation, controlling the drone to hover, plan flight paths, and take off and land against the wind—the realism of translating finger movements into aerial trajectories—was incomparable to textbook knowledge. However, the most valuable takeaway from this workshop was "data acquisition and application." Drones are more than just flying cameras; they are powerful surveying tools. We learned how to set flight paths for automated overlapping image capture, and afterwards, we imported the photos into software, manually stitching together hundreds of fragmented aerial images into a high-resolution orthophoto and a 3D digital terrain model. The captured footage is transformed into precise spatial data with geographic coordinates, making drones a revolutionary tool for geography and historical spatial research. They break the temporal and spatial limitations of traditional surveying, allowing us to record and analyze land changes with a more efficient and macroscopic "God's-eye view." 01_建立牢固的法規與安全觀念,強調禁航區查詢與飛行前檢查的重要性,「安全」是專業飛行的第一準則
