Ministry of Education USR Project (2025–2027): Integrating University Social Responsibility into Institutional Development Planning — Focus Group with Neighborhood Chiefs from Dementia-Friendly Neighborhoods

To further refine the Taipei City Department of Health’s "Dementia-Friendly Neighborhood Initiative" (scheduled for 2026), the University Social Responsibility (USR) "Social Prescribing" team from the University of Taipei collaborated with the Ju-Guang Center for Healthy Aging and Empowerment (Taipei City Hospital) on June 29, 2026. They jointly organized a focus group for neighborhood wardens, inviting those who had participated in the pilot program between 2024 and 2025 to share their insights. Through the exchange of experiences and opinions, the focus group gathered practical insights from various neighborhoods regarding the promotion of dementia-friendly communities. Participants offered concrete suggestions concerning assessment indicators, implementation workflows, and execution strategies. The wardens shared their experiences in supporting elderly residents with dementia, assisting families with caregiving, and mobilizing community resources, while also highlighting practical challenges such as staffing, inter-agency collaboration, legal risks, and the integration of care resources. The team consolidated these frontline experiences and recommendations to serve as a vital reference for optimizing the initiative's mechanisms and related policies. Moving forward, the team aims to continue fostering cross-sector collaboration to build more comprehensive and inclusive dementia-friendly communities.
