Ministry of Education USR Project (2025–2027): Integrating University Social Responsibility into Institutional Development Planning — ISPC 2026 International Exchange and Future Cooperation Planning Meeting

Under its University Social Responsibility (USR) initiative, the University of Taipei hosted Professor Fumiko Kono from the Kyoto University School of Public Health. Together with partners—including the Dementia Center of the Taipei City Hospital and National Dong Hwa University—the university organized a "Social Prescribing" exchange event to facilitate the sharing of experiences and insights between Taiwan and Japan regarding health promotion, elderly care, and community support. During the event, participants shared practical experiences regarding the implementation of social prescribing in both Taiwan and Japan. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including dementia-friendly communities, Advance Care Planning (ACP), museum prescriptions, "green" social prescriptions, community support networks, and the training of cross-disciplinary "link workers." This international exchange enabled the sharing of achievements, implementation models, and future development directions for social prescribing across the two regions. The exchange also highlighted a significant development: the Graduate School of Public Health at Kyoto University recently became an official World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Healthy Ageing and Equity, thereby elevating the international significance of this Taiwan-Japan collaboration. Looking ahead, both parties aim to join forces—through joint research, academic exchanges, workshops, and international cooperation—to develop social prescribing models better suited to the Asian cultural context, while continuing to deepen their impact on health promotion and elderly care. Through this cross-border, interdisciplinary exchange, the participating partners recognized that social prescribing is not merely a new model of healthcare, but a vital bridge connecting individuals, communities, and societal resources. Moving forward, the University Social Responsibility (USR) program at the University of Taipei will continue to collaborate with domestic and international partners to implement innovative practices, fostering a healthier and more resilient community environment in Taiwan.
