This unit explored the multifaceted application of diverse media elements. The instructor introduced materials with varying textures, such as foam tubes of different thicknesses, alongside ribbons characterized by their inherently light and fluid qualities, establishing a foundational understanding of their usage. During the subsequent sub-group activities, participants engaged in improvised movement using the varying foam tubes to expand the baseline of media application, broaden the interplay between the body and materials, and construct an aesthetic synthesis between somatic movement and media. Additionally, a hands-on crafting activity integrated thin foam tubes with ribbons. The instructor elucidated the distinct structural properties of ribbons of various lengths and invited participants to dance with these hybrid materials, thereby deepening their familiarity with the affordances of different media.
