Embodied Group Processes and Dynamics in Older Adult Groups
This course focuses on embodied group processes and group dynamics in older adult groups, integrating perspectives from Somatics, Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT), and Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) to explore bodily interaction and nonverbal communication among older adults in group settings. Centered on the concept of Kinesphere, participants will examine personal space, shared space, and the establishment and modulation of interpersonal boundaries, gaining an understanding of how spatial awareness and movement influence feelings of safety, trust, group cohesion, and the quality of interpersonal interactions. Through embodied experiences, spatial exploration, case studies, and group practice, participants will develop the ability to observe embodied group processes and group dynamics, while learning to design movement-based interventions and facilitation strategies that address the diverse physical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs of older adults.
